Self-regulation is the ability to manage thought, emotions and behaviors. Teachers and parents can model self-regulation daily. Teachers can provide moments for self-regulations such as waiting your turn, raising your hand, counting when upset and deep breathing when emotional. Parents can provide support and modeling by having a safe home environment. They should also encourage children to express their emotions no matter what they are and then discuss the appropriate way to express said emotions. Parents can model empathy and sharing while explain tolerance, patience and understanding of others.
